The Master of Science in Finance from the University of Aberdeen provides students with a unique opportunity to gain an Online Masters in Finance, whilst simultaneously studying towards a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) qualification.

The MSc Finance online courses are designed to allow students to gain credits towards their Masters in Finance in USA, and prepare for the CFA exam simultaneously.

Combining postgraduate degree-level study with certified professional training, successful graduates will be well equipped with the skills and knowledge needed for a prosperous career in financial management.

The Master of Science in Finance is structured into three blocks and starts off with a week-long induction at the beginning. Students are given break between each block. The break is for a minimum time period of one week, however, due to additional holidays, students may be given longer break between blocks; this depends on the start date of the programme.

The programme is designed to offer students with the opportunity to customise their degree to suit their career aspirations:

  • Pathway 1 = with CFA® 1 and 2 + Finance Project
  • Pathway 2 = without CFA® + Dissertation

Block 1 and 2 consist of four courses of 15 credits each. The third and final block could consist of either 2 or 3 courses, depending on the pathway chosen. The final course, is either a Finance Project of 30/45 credits (with CFA®1/2 pathway), or a dissertation that bears 60 credits (without CFA® pathway).

As part of the Masters in Finance online programme, you can opt to study towards the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) credential.

Choosing the CFA® pathway provides students with the opportunity to gain additional professional skills, over and above those attained when pursuing a typical postgraduate finance degree. The programme allows students to develop their skills in portfolio management and investment analysis.

Students who choose the MSc in Finance with the CFA® pathway will benefit from the examination preparation training provided by FitchLearning. Information on the curriculum, entry requirements and other additional information on the CFA® can be found on the FitchLearning website.

UK second-class honours degree (or equivalent) in any discipline. Students from a non-finance background may apply as well.

You do not need to have a background in business, mathematics or management to apply. However, proof of numerical or quantitative skills gained professionally would be beneficial.

Students with non-standards qualifications can apply as all applications are evaluated on an individual basis.

English language skills will be assessed during the admissions process.

If further evidence of your English language proficiency is required, you may be asked to take a recognised English proficiency test such as the IELTS.

You will have a discussion with an Admissions Advisor, either online or over the phone. The advisor will provide more information about the programme, answer any questions you have about studying with the Aberdeen Business School, and advise you about the programme fees and flexi-payment options.

Students will be asked you to provide evidence of their qualifications and work experience as well.

All student applications are processed via the university’s Admissions area, where all documents required are uploaded and stored securely.

Students pursuing the CFA® pathway will have to arrange their own CFA® examinations and fee payment.

The original full course fee, inclusive of all online study material for the Online MSc Finance is GBP 13,800.

** The scholarship is fixed at 20% of the tuition fee = GBP 2,760, bringing the total tution fee down to GBP 11,040. The amount mentioned in USD is an approximate value, and the final amount would depend on the exchange rate on the day of payment - Limited to the first 15 applicants - The scholarship is applicable for the Spring 2018 intake only. University of Aberdeen alumni will receive a 20% scholarship towards their tuition fee.
Students opting for the CFA® pathway as part of the MSc Finance programme will have to pay an additional fee for the learning materials delivered by FitchLearning, payable at the beginning of Block 1 & 2:
